30 Paintings in 30 Days - Day 8 - Splash

There is something very therapeutic about working/painting with ink.  There is only so much you can control and that is good to know from the beginning. Leaving so much white in this piece allows the colors to cheerfully pop off the surface.

For this ink painting, I was a bit messier than usual.  I like how there are layers of color that lie beneath with the gold and yellow bursts peeking out from underneath.

How close could I get to these tulips and you would still know they were tulips?  I love the variety of purples in the flowers especially against the sage green background. The challenge was making the tones different enough for you to see the variation.

Orange and Purple

Hello friends!  This piece was inspired by a wonderful plate I found at the Japanese market.  Initially I was going to do a still life of the plate but the whole thing looked too tight and lifeless so I wiped the canvas and started over.  The second time around I kept it loose with plenty of bright elements.
