30 Paintings in 30 Days - Day 7 - Once More Into the Breach!

When I look at this piece I feel like I could jump in.  The lighter green does a nice job of  keeping a lot the red and blue visible underneath.  Will you jump in?

30 Paintings in 30 Days - Big Bang

For this ink painting, I was a bit messier than usual.  I like how there are layers of color that lie beneath with the gold and yellow bursts peeking out from underneath.

Aloha Anthurium

This anthurium is from the same Hawaiian island as the hibiscus - rich and vivid pinks and greens!  I hope I managed to capture some of its beauty in oil.

Going Going Green

This weekend we went to the Richard Jackson retrospective, Ain't Painting a Pain, the Orange County Museum of Art through May 5th, 2013. Jackson wants you to be uncomfortable with but at the same time experience the art.  My purpose here is not discomfort but to see how the different greens relate to one another in this space.

Blue Green Abstract

Copic ink on Yupo paper. I was going to use only shades of green but then somehow the blue dropped in there! I love working with ink on this paper because it does not absorb anything.  You drop the ink on and either guide it or let it go where it wants to.

Aloha Hibiscus! - SOLD

Happy President's Day with a hibiscus from Hawaii!  I did not go but luckily I have friends who travel. The colors are just that much deeper and richer on a tropical island.  The lush greens and the deep red topped off with the pink - a terrific combination.

Green Pear

The first iteration of this pear was pretty grayed down so I decided to punch up the golds and the greens. This pear was also very delicious!

Abstract Blues and Greens on Copper

This piece is done with ink on copper.  I painted a thin layer of gesso over the embossed copper and let it dry. I then added a few drops of ink and spread it around with a toothpick. I then started adding coordinating colors to cover the whole piece and then let it completely dry.  Finally, I sanded the ink from some of the raised embossing.

Day 28 -- Kiwi Madness

Of course I love the red and green complement and then all the other greens!
