Day 30 - Sunset #2

Some nights we get the most spectacular sunsets.  Purples, pinks, oranges and blues - nature's bounty of colors!  This is the last painting in the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge. It was a great way to jumpstart the painting year.  Thank you for following the challenge!  I look forward to posting many more paintings for you in 2013.

Day 29 -- Persimmon

Lots of yellows and oranges and browns. Nature always amazes me with how many shades of one color it can make.  I love it!

Day 27 -- Mr. Big and Mr. Little

Believe it or not these are both Meyer Lemons.  Different size and different age makes for the difference in color - a wonderful play between the yellow and orange.

Day 26 -- Iced Green Tea

Every Friday night our family looks forward to dinner at the food court of the wonderful Japanese market, Mitsuwa.  The beverage of choice is always green tea, either cold or hot.  How about some of this refreshing beverage with its gorgeous greens?

Day 25 -- Pretty in Pink and Orange and Yellow

I found some tiny canvases at the art supply store and had to get one.  This painting is actually on a 3x2 mini-canvas.  The vivid colors drew me to this wonderful flower.

Day 24 -- Atmosphere of the Sun

Today the Los Angeles Times posted a NASA photo, the highest resolution image ever, of the sun's atmosphere saying that it offered an explanation of why its outer most layer is up to 800 times hotter than its surface.  My interpretation cannot come close to the beauty nature creates, but it is fun to try!

Day 23 -- A La Banana

What do I love about this painting?  Probably the banana!  I was not excited at first about using an overripe specimen but it turned out to be perfect between the browns and the yellows and much more interesting.

Day 22 -- Avocado

The avocado is very subtle not only in its flavor but in its colors as well.

This is another painting with ink experiment.  Abstract in nature but what do you see?

This mango has the best colors - oranges, reds, pinks and greens.  Nature is pretty good with the colors!

Day 18 -- Fungus

This is an amazing fungus that grows on the eucalyptus trees in our neighborhood in more humid times.
It is an explosion of golds and oranges springing from the side of the tree!

Day 16 -- Landscape Painted in Ink

This is a landscape painted in ink on a synthetic paper called YUPO.  A bit more abstract than you have seen me do but still full of color!

Day 15 -- Guacamole

Day 15 and I hope your hungry!  I have just realized that you can probably guess what I am eating every night by what ends up on the easel.  How many greens does it take to make guacamole?

Day 14 -- Strawberry - SOLD

Day 14 and this strawberry gave me a run for the money.  So many colors in such a little fruit!  He did taste good though...

Day 13 -- Red Swingline

Day 13 has me turning to one of my favorite office supplies, my red Swingline stapler! I love the cadmium red against the shades of caribbean and ice blue (colors introduced to me at a fabulous workshop one year in Pasadena).

Day 12 -- Bodhi boy

And no one, human or pet is safe in the quest to paint 30 paintings in 30 days.  This is the family dog, Bodhi. The challenge with Bodhi was the browns and and blacks which aren't really black once you start to paint them.

This little piece was painted with Copic ink that was applied with brush, brush tip marker and air brush. Copic ink is my second favorite medium, oil paint being my first.

Day 9 -- Bowl

Day 9 of the 30 day challenge, and today it's a still life of a humble bowl from my cupboard. It looks a little sad, all empty an alone.

I could not resist doing another pear -- this time the mighty bosc!  I love the browns and golds of the pear in contrast to the caribbean blue surroundings.

Day 6 - Found Box

30 in 30 - Day 6. We had some neighbors move out quickly over the weekend and rather than move anything, they just threw EVERYTHING away.  My husband rescued this box because he thought I might like it.  I thought I might like to paint it.  I love all the browns and reds in this piece.

Day 5 - Rosy

On Day 5 of the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge, no one is safe, including the family cat.  This is Rosy, up close and personal.  It was interesting to really "see" what color black fur is when you want to paint it.

I love the colorful variety of pumpkins that are available every year.  I thought the yellow, oranges, greens and grays would fun to paint today.

Ok! Made it through Day 2 with Red Pear.  I really loved the particular red in this pear, together with the blue, green and yellow under tone.  Tomorrow we will eat this pear but now it is immortalized in art.
